I wanted to do some folk art type images on this series of acoustic cigar box guitars and was thinking and thinking about what to do…then it hit me…why not use some of my lyrics in the songs that I wrote on the cigar box guitar for my band, The Budrows…!!!So, here are a couple of lyrics, and the images to go with them…see if you can guess what song(s) they are from. Here was a custom order…the electric with the key ring of antique keys (it is a painting of the tattoo the customer has on his arm). I liked the ‘key’ theme, so I did an accompanying acoustic version as well, and I found some lock opening type metal thing’s (yeah, I know nice description) to decorate the boxes with.
The First Annual Mini Maker Faire (little brother the MAKER FAIRE, of MAKE Magazine Fame) last year in Irvine was such a great success, that they are doing it again this year in the summer of 2013. I had a booth of my hand-made cigar box guitars on display, as well as a hands on display for people to try them out for themselves…and to top it all off, LIVE music from us, The Budrows, to show people the foot stompin’ Delta Blues sound that these guitars are capable of. I did a limited edition series of 4 guitars with the Maker Bot Logo on them just for the faire. All in All, a great day…Can’t wait to do it again this year.
These are my $99 cigar box guitar that come with a custom bottle neck slide, Digital Download of The Budrows, 100% Foot Stompin’ Cigar Box Rock n’ Roll, and a couple of stickers…You’ll be playing in no time. Click Here for Availability
Snake Bite: This is an electric four string with a painting of a rattler, this thing says stand back, cause the sound will bite you. It has a piezo pick-up mounted in between the neck and the box and has a volume control as well. It sounds mean.
Big Clucker: This is a basic four string acoustic with a painting of the big clucker that kept waking me up when I was staying at a friends house. It has cut in fret markers custom painted fret dots. It sounds way better than that rooster at 4 in the morning.
This series of four boxes was created by me specifically for the ‘Dia de los Muertos’ art exhibit for the City of Anaheim a few years ago. It ran from the beginning of October through the first week in December and was very well received by all who attended. We played live cigar box guitar music there, and enjoyed some great artwork by many talented local artist. These are acoustic 4 stringers with hinge tail piece, cut in fret markers, and custom art work.
I start a series of these Loteria Card paintings on cigar boxes, with the plan of turning them all into guitars…well, this is the only one that made it’s way to instrument status, with it’s poplar neck and custom oil painted graphics. It’s hanging up in my good friend’s Man Room and looks great. SOLD
