Here was a custom order…the electric with the key ring of antique keys (it is a painting of the tattoo the customer has on his arm). I liked the ‘key’ theme, so I did an accompanying acoustic version as well, and I found some lock opening type metal thing’s (yeah, I know nice description) to decorate the boxes with.
I built this little cigar box amplifier a few years back…it was pretty fun to build and sounded great, it’s just a 9v battery, pushing 1 watt through a little 4″ speaker. You can build one yourself with the schematic found here and some basic soldering skills. SOLD
The First Annual Mini Maker Faire (little brother the MAKER FAIRE, of MAKE Magazine Fame) last year in Irvine was such a great success, that they are doing it again this year in the summer of 2013. I had a booth of my hand-made cigar box guitars on display, as well as a hands on display for people to try them out for themselves…and to top it all off, LIVE music from us, The Budrows, to show people the foot stompin’ Delta Blues sound that these guitars are capable of. I did a limited edition series of 4 guitars with the Maker Bot Logo on them just for the faire. All in All, a great day…Can’t wait to do it again this year.
Remember these glasses with the mustache? Fooled everyone, Right? Well,I thought that the image of these would make great folk art for a cigar box guitar, especially since the cigar box guitar itself kind of fools everyone who sees and hears it. People never expect a guitar made from a cigar box to actually work, but when it does….SURPRISE!!! FOOLED AGAIN. SOLD
Here are the Three String Noise Machines…these cigar box guitars feature single coil pick ups with volume and tone controls. There are no sound holes in the guitars,…they are meant to be plugged in, and when they are, let me tell you,…that single coil howwwwl’s…these have that gritty blues sound you can’t live without. I play another one of these in The Budrows too. SOLD
This 4 string cigar box guitar was a custom build for a guy that sold me my VW Westfalia, he wanted it clean and mean…This Cuban cigar box was just right. The green color with the highlights for the fret markers, really sets it off. It is fretted, with a piezo pick up and an old bakelite radio knob for the volume control. Classic. SOLD
Here’s a couple of clean builds, both 4 string, both electric, both with toothpick frets and cherry wood necks…I love the way the sound holes turned out on these cigar box guitars. SOLD
